Our mission is to build a vibrant creative community — through the creation and performance of original opera — that transcends differences and transforms the lives of children, families, and artists.
A Note From Our Founder
Dear Friends,
Welcome to our Season 8 Annual Report!
When we launched this year in the fall of 2018 I had no idea it would be our last one in residence at West Portal School. What began as the most ambitious season we've ever had — 42 students, 4 classes, summer camp, and a performing troupe — became the launchpad for our biggest change yet. At the close of the season we announced a new partnership with Grace Cathedral that would mean moving the program across the city starting in the fall of 2019.
Saying goodbye to the West Portal community was not easy. Over the last eight years we have built strong relationships and friendships with dozens of teachers, staff members, parents, and students, and we knew our move would make it impossible for many of them to continue on with us. A handful of families did manage to find a way to move all the way across this city with us this year, but many could not. We miss them. Creating this annual report has been a wonderful way to celebrate our final year at West Portal, and all of the students and families we had the honor of working with there.
I am writing this three months into our new partnership with Grace Cathedral, and though the Little Opera student community is smaller than last season, our students and staff alike are thriving. As we get to know our new neighborhood and continue to grow the Little Opera community in our new home, I can't wait to discover who we will get to meet next.
Thank you for your continued belief in what we're building, and for your ongoing support of the Little Opera family.
Hope to see you around this season,
